Reds target to stay put

Laurent Picard

Liverpool have reportedly failed in their bid to try and sign Bordeaux
goalkeeper Ulrich Rame.

The 35-year-old was rumoured to have been offered a two-year deal by The
Reds, possibly to replace Charles Itandje as Jose Reina's number two, but
the French club's chairman Jean-Louis Triaud claims his captain is not on
his way to Anfield.

France international Rame, who impressed Rafa Benitez when his team faced
Bordeaux in the Champions League two seasons ago, has not asked his boss
for a move and Triaud is confident he will remain with Les Girondins.

For me there's no debate, Triaud told Le Parisien. We wish Ulrich to stay.

He'll still be there next season.

I have been told about Liverpool for ages; if he really wanted to go there,
he would have told me.

We will hold talks about his new contract at the right moment.

Nevertheless, for the players who want to go elsewhere, the next Champions
League will be a beautiful window to show what they can do.
