Olic relaxed in face of Liverpool talk
by Adam Marshall, 18 June 2008
Croatia attacker Ivica Olic, reportedly a target for Liverpool, expects to
remain at Hamburg next season.
The hard-running forward has impressed for Slaven Bilic's side in Euro 2008
and has attracted a new army of admirers with his selfless performances.
Reports in Germany claim Rafa Benitez fancies Olic to work the flanks at
Anfield next term and supply the ammunition for leading scorer Fernando Torres.
However, Olic admits he is likely to remain in the Bundesliga despite his
exploits in Austria and Switzerland.
"All this is not currently an issue for me," he told Mopo when asked about
interest from Italy, England and Spain.
"I want to, and must have, my mind on the European Championship - for Croatia!
"Once I'm back home, I will quickly get together with HSV.
"I think I'll play next year for Hamburg. And even longer. But so much is
possible in football."
Hamburg hope to resume contractual talks with the 28-year-old on his return
from the finals, but the birth of a new baby could play some part in the
thinking regarding his future.
Nevertheless, he is quoted by Spox as saying: "To play with a great club in
England is a dream for me."
Liverpool are said to have scouted the left-sided forward during the
tournament and been impressed with his work-rate and ability.
Olic, who has drawn great praise from national team coach Slaven Bilic, is
under contract until the end of next season.
